What Does this blood Test Result Mean?

Doctor put me on D2, 50,000 for three months. Blood work results: Vitamin D, 25-hydroxy, D3 level is at 8ng/mL, went down by 1 ng/mL from 3 months ago; Vitamin D, 25 hydroxy, D2 level is at 32 ng/mL- went up from being in the negatives Vitamin D , 25 hydroxy D is now at 40ng/mL. - up from being at 9nm/mL three months ago. I am concerned about the D3- should I be, or is it fine?

Hi,

Noted your readings of Vitamin D2 and D3, changes with time, treatment with D2 50,000 for three months - the intervals between doses not mentioned, D3 is at 8 ng and D2 is at 32so total D is 40 ng.
This all looks to be confusing as D3 is the superior form Vitamin D and D2 is an inferior form which is converted to D3 for it to be active in body.
You have to follow Vitamin D3, its levels and get the doses as per the reports now and after 1 month of treatment.
Also important is the exposure of the skin to the morning sunlight as this produces Vitamin D by the skin on exposure to sunlight.
Consult your Doctor who is well versed with Vitamin D knowledge and proper management.
ALso needed is Vitamin A, other B-complexes , minerals and trace elements as all these may be interconnected and single vitamin alone may not be fully useful.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. T. Chandrakant, General Surgeon
